After closing her summer contract at Priscilla Beach Theatre, Doherty will head back to school (Williamsburg, VA) for seven weeks before departing for a new project (and continuing school virtually). Although it's still under wraps, here are a few clues:
It's her favorite musical of all time (!!!)
It's a repeat; she's worked on it before!
This musical has a big anniversary coming up
One of the songs from this musical was sung at the Tony's this year
Doherty brought Ermengarde to life in PBT's production of HELLO, DOLLY! She was excited to have the opportunity to convey the gravity of Ermengarde's plight to Plymouth's audiences, a facet of Ermengarde that she feels is susceptible to being overlooked.
Doherty performed the iconic contemporary musical theatre number, "I Know It's Today" as Teen Fiona and had a blast torturing Lord Farquaad as the Shoemaker's Elf. In the last weekend of shows, Doherty swung into a last minute, unplanned split track to cover for cast illness.
Doherty returned Off-Broadway to take part in the revival of SMILE with J2 Spotlight Musical Theatre Company. Under the direction of Robert W. Schneider, music direction by Matt Stern, and executing the incredible choreography of Caitlin Belcik, Doherty played Kate, the asthmatic Typical High School Senior (TM), also known as Miss Fresno. Spoiler alert, she did not win the pageant. But perhaps the real pageant was the friends she made along the way.
Doherty checked a major bucket list role off her list in her portrayal of Small Alison in Fun Home, one of William & Mary's mainstage productions.

Originally slated to Stage Manage this production, Doherty stepped seamlessly into the role of Alice during the process due to production needs.

Doherty signs on to Winter Park Playhouse's Florida Festival of New Musicals, a program that supports new writers by showcasing the first act of their new musicals. Doherty plays 9 year old Jane Anderson, daughter of Wendy Darling Anderson. Set during the suffrage movement in England, Jane must deal with the loss of her father and subsequent upheaval of her family. She seeks comfort in her mother's stories of Neverland, and spends most of the first act trying to get her uncles to remember their adventures. She sings the lead of "Starfish of the Sea" where she daydreams about being a Captain of a ship bound for Neverland, leads a verse of "The Promise of Tomorrow", and adds her voice to the endearing duet "Sail Away." Determined to get to Neverland, where everything seems happier, she runs away at the end of the first act during a terrible fight between her mother and uncle over her guardianship.
Continuing along the thread of playing dream roles, Doherty steps into the shoes of Helen Keller in a moving production of The Miracle Worker.
As a spunky red-head herself, Doherty takes on a role she was always meant to play at The Granite Theatre!
Doherty takes on the classic role of Scout Finch in To Kill A Mockingbird, fulfilling one of her dream roles.
In the beautiful Golden Age musical The Music Man, Doherty played Marian's young piano student, Amaryllis, who is hopelessly in love with her teacher's little brother. She pines away for him during "Goodnight My Someone," joining her teacher in lamenting their love lives.
