Why spotlight others on your website, Bobbie?
For a long time now, I've wanted a space on my website where I can lift up other female artists. I was told not to. I was told "your website is for you! Why would you distract them with other girls?" That only made me want to do it more. Who are we as artists and humans if we cannot recognize and lift each other up? And if we really loved working with someone, why wouldn't we want to sing their praises? Therefore, I'm happy to present you with my new Spotlight Series.
I had the joy of working with Mackenzie at Priscilla Beach Theatre, where we performed SHREK and HELLO, DOLLY! in rep together. During rehearsals for DOLLY, for which Mackenzie played the titular role, a cast member fell ill and could not perform in SHREK that night. I was thrown into a last minute split track, covering the ill performer in a number I had never seen before. Without hesitation, Mackenzie stepped into her SHREK Dance Captain duties to teach me the number while simulaneously carrying DOLLY through it's first stumble through, sacrificing her breaks to ensure everything could run smoothly.
Although she is young, Mackenzie carries a company with the skill and ease of someone beyond her years. Her quiet strength and fortitude is felt by every member of the company; when she is your lead, you are able to relax and play. She is so present onstage and never misses a beat. If a prop falls, she'll find a way to get it. If a set piece malfunctions, she'll turn it into a joke effortlessly. Her command of the stage is beautiful and awe-some.
